This is similar to having word work as part of your literacy centers. (To put it simply, it’s what your students are doing while you are teaching small group reading.) One of the activities students are engaged in throughout the week is word work. If you’re not familiar with the Daily 5, it is a management routine that takes place while you are teaching small groups. The third “word work time” in my classroom takes place during Daily 5 time. These two word work times I have listed are rooted in phonemic awareness and phonics instruction. One group might be working on CVC words while another group is sorting words with various diphthong patterns. This word work time varies depending upon the students I’m working with. Another “word work time” takes place at the small group table. All of my students receive hands-on experiences and engage in lessons that involve making, breaking, and building words with various phonetic patterns. One word work time takes place during a mandated teaching time using my district’s phonics program we adopted. I actually have three “word work times” in my room. Before I begin the fun, I want to quickly explain how my word work time is implemented, so that you can better understand how, when, and why I use these ideas with my students. There are always fun ways to include learning in our daily lives.In this post, I’m going to share TWENTY word work ideas for sight word practice in your classroom. As you go through your week, be conscious of the letter T. If you catch yourself using one of our spelling words in conversation – or even if you just see it on a billboard – make a note of it to your child. Never lose hope or enthusiasm and never stop trying new spelling word activities! When in doubt, try a new one out! 1ST GRADE SPELLING LIST: Guess what? It’s absolutely okay for them to struggle a little. This may be the first time your child has seen the “ea” or “ai” or any of the other sounds on this list. A big step along the way to this understanding of the alphabet are Kindergarten spelling words. Lifelong skills are developed in understanding of letter combinations. Words that start with the letter T are no exception to this rule. Kindergarten spelling words are so crucial to a child’s development. My kids are always hungry for a challenge, so feel free to mix up these lists to suit your needs and keep things interesting. For words starting with the letter T, I wanted to make sure they are words that are fun, relatable, and useful. Just keep it fun and constructive! When your kiddo needs a break, make sure to give them some free time doing creative activities such as coloring by letters ! SPELLING WORDS THAT START WITH THE LETTER T With each spelling list, I scoured and researched in an attempt to make sure the words are all just challenging enough. What helps one kiddo could completely confuse another. How to teach sight words is difficult, no matter how you look at it. If you feel as though you are struggling to break through to your child’s understanding of the sight words, do not give up. Doing so also helps your star student keep on track from week to week. Breaking it down by letter will help you keep the lessons concise. SIGHT WORD LIST As we worked to develop our list, Kindergarten Sight Words and 1st Grade Sight Words quickly became too numerous for one list. At the end of the day, I always come back to the core ideas behind teaching sight words. Next up as we learn the alphabet is words that start with the letter T!
